The First Secondary Class Students and Their Parents Level of Practicing Values in Zarga Governorate: Comparative Study

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to reveal the value system of the Jordanian parents and its similarity or dissimilarity to the value system of their adolescent children of both sexes. Rokeach value index is used with a cluster random sample composed of (1398) participants, divided as follows (466) students (216) males and (250) females and their parents (932) participants divided equally (466) mothers and (466) fathers. For the total group, religiosity comes at the top, followed by family security, then happiness. Social respect comes last among terminal values. As to the instrumental values, ambition comes first followed by courage, cleanliness, and obedience. As for the order of the students of both the terminal values , family security comes at the top , followed by religiosity then happiness . social respect last. As to the instrumental values ambition comes first , followed by courge, cleanliness. helpness comes last. Either with regard to the order of the parent's values of the terminal values religious comes first, followed by family Security . world of beauty comes last among terminal values. Aambition comes the top . followed by courge, open mind and obedience comes last among instrumental values . Results show a great deal of agreement between the two generations and few differences are statistically significant. Differences and similarities are noted between the two genders.
